Legos from Long-ago

Went up to SB this weekend to spend some quick time with mom and pop. While I was there, I raided the attic for my old Lego collection. We have a laundry basket full of them, must be nearly 10,000 legos. As soon as I got home we busted them out and started making stuff on the living room floor.

Man these things bring back some fond memories. I used to spend a LOT of time making stuff, mostly spaceships and castles with intricate fantasies attached. I found myself playing with the Legos (and not the kids) after about five minutes of digging in. Great stuff, great toy. Thanks mom for saving this, we are going to get a lot out of it. (At least I will!)

Potty Boot Camp

Oh yes I see a light at the end of the tunnel! No, not like I'm dying, the good kind of light... The kind of light that says to me, "No more diapers if you can make this happen." That's right, we are potty training the last of the lineage. This weekend, little Andrew was entered into Potty Boot Camp.

For those of you who don't know what Sandwisch Potty Boot Camp is, well let me enlighten you. Beginning on Friday, Mr. Andrew was no longwer allowed to wear any clothes from the waist down. Jen and I then focus all of our time on beating the notion of potty training into his head every minute of the day. It's intense, it's messy, and it's tiring. So here we are at the end of day two and I have the following items to report that have been involved in the process:

- 1 Minature kiddy potty, with about 47 stickers, including the letters A N D Y

- 1 Fully suportive sister (Katie: "SEEEE, you can go pee pee in the potty Andrew, just like ME! You are a big boy!")

- 3 Library children's books on the subject read each night

- 1 Potty video (Yes they really have them, and I can tell you that wathing it will make you feel like you are somewere in the the Mr. Rogers Twilight Zone)

- 1,385 Times asking Andy, "Do you need to go to the potty?"

- 1 Accident (#1) early on

- 1 Accident (#2) while trying on his underwear while at Tim and Kathy's house... Sorry guys! Yuck!

- 1 Time Andy came to me and actually said "Daddy, I need to go potty" (Cha Ching!)

- 1 Time Andy tried to go by himslef while we weren't looking, STANDING UP. (If you can imagine someone trying to use an imaginry Hoola-Hoop while holding a hose between thier legs, and making disturbing grunting sounds... well then you can picture what I discovered when I came on the scene...)

- 2 Totally exhausted parents

- 1 Very enthusiastic boy

He is doing great, due to the nakedness, I don't have a good picture to share.

Also, we went to see Tim, Kathy, Nicole, and Tommy today. (Only true friends would invite us over in the middle of all of this!) They cooked up some mean grub and we had a great time connecting. Below is a shot of Cole and Katie sharing the love.

Pertty Maids all in a Row

Katie's Ballet Recital is coming up and today she had her first dress rehearsal. She is in the class with some of her close friends and they love the tutus and dancing it up. The class is performing "Little Miss Muffet". It's crazy what a deal they (the class) makes out of this, I mean there is a LOT of prep for the production, including detailed instructions on make-up... you name it. Katie got to wear mascara for the first time today. About 10 seconds before her picture, she rubbed her eyes, leaving her looking more like Little Miss Goth Muffet. Luckily Jen dashed in and saved the day with some quick scrubbing. We know we are biased but we think she is the cutest one of the group.

Me, You and Shamu

I have spent a few posts recently knocking Southern California. Well, Jen was showing me some shots from a recent trip she and the kids had at Sea World and it I just had to post one of these and try to restore some Karmic balance to SoCal perspective.
Being locals in San Diego, we are able to visit the big attractions during off-peak hours. This photo is taken on a day when Jen, Amy and the kids got to have some quality 1:1 time with Shamu. The exhibit is incredible but usually you have to fight for a patch of glass against a hundred other tourists. On this early weekday morning, the kids got to just sit by themselves, and watch as the killer whale made endless passes, flirting with them from just a few feet away with each fly-by.
Pretty neat stuff.

Cast Away

Big news in the house! Katie got her cast taken off! Man, I can't believe how fast that 3 weeks went. She was very brave in the removal process, no crying, and I quote, "I wasn't even scared!" Everything looks good and we are gearing up to do some swimming soon. Our pool pump broke and we gotta pay some bucks to get it fixed but we should be in the water this weekend.

The below pic is from my birthday. The stickers are from the Pin the Tail on the Donkey game Jen got us. Of course, in true Sandwisch fashion, once we were done with the donkey, we plastered ourselves with tails and giggles. (I decided not to post the picture of Katie bending over and showing the one she had stuck to her bottom...)

Busy Weekend

I've got a few minutes here at work before I head home so I thought I'd update ya'll on the weekend.

Pretty busy around here celebrating stuff. My 37th birthday (yes I'll say it again... THIRTY SEVEN). Dear lord it hurts even to write it out, let alone say it out loud. As I cross the border into "closer to 40 than anything else" I have to say, the realization of my age is a scary prospect with no visable means of escape. Honestly, I look in the mirror and I still picture this 20-year-old guy who only wants to have fun... Weird. I really don't see a guy who is on the cusp of middle age! Man, am I in denial or what?

Jen was totally awesome in giving me the perfect birthday. I took off work early on Friday. Jen had bought these totally-3rd-grade Star Wards decorations (you know, Vader, Yoda, etc.) and hung them around the house. She had also had posters made by her and the kids wishing me a happy birthday. There were presents and snacks, and all kinds of fun. The topper had to be the authentic "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" game that she set-up.

We made the mistake of decorating before nap time. The kids didn't nap as they were so wound-up over the concept of presents and the decorations. After giving in to the reality that they weren't going to sleep, we opened a few gifts in the early afternoon. Then we set off to Dave and Busters at 4:00 for food and games. The kids were out of control and actually making the experience quite challenging as we tried to eat before we played games. I was starving, they hadn't napped, and we were all struggling to gel at the beginning.

Then miraculously (after my 2 giant margaritas) everything seemed to be really fun!

Seriously, the food was great (I had a giant Philly Steak Sandwich). And the kids went nuts on the games. We played everything. Jen had gotten us free passes for an hour so we were racing from game to game to get our money's worth. We were all exhausted after the frenzied video-gorging. I think my 2 highlights in the arcade were:

1) Andy playing this "Shoot-em-up" game where he was holding this GIANT rifle, complete with vibrating recoil -- he was basically knocking himslef backwards every time he pulled the trigger, but he was giggling so hard the whole time that it was hysterical. The second the game was over, he say, "I wa play gin!" (Yes yes, viololence, video-games, I'm a bad parent.)

2) Katie and I playing Donkey-Kong. Yes, they had the original there, circa 1976. And my old "jump the barrel" muscle memory hand-eye coordination skills flowed back into me like riding a bike. Kate loved it cause each level was all about saving the princess. Very fun. Flashed me back to playing Donkey Kong in the local Rusty's Pizza in Magnolia Shopping Center when I was like 7.

Saturday, Jen let me sleep in. She took the kids to two birthday parties in the am. Too much candy and too much fun left the kids in bad shape. I watched them Saturday night (while Jen went out with some friends) and Katie was literally "out of her mind' until about 10pm. It was a dark time I can assure you.

Sunday was, of course, Mommies day. Jen and the kids were vegetables at this point. Per Jen's request, we observed Mommy's Day by giving Mommy lots of space and rest. I took the kids as much as I could (poor Jen still had to help out in the midday) but we were able to get her an afternoon nap as well.

That's pretty much the recap, no pics yet but Ill shoot you some on the next post.

My Special Day

Last night Katie had an event at her school called "My Special Day." The idea is that she gets to choose a parent to bring to class in the evening for an hour of 1:1 play time. I was very honored that Katie wanted me to come with her. Pulled some double-duty babysitting time for one of Katie's calssmates (+ Andy) and Katie and I then headed over to her school.

Well things started off very special as we did a craft together... then Katie ran into one of her good friends in class and suddenly daddy might as well been invisible! I manged to stay cool and try not to look too abandoned (although I kinda felt like I had a "L" on my forhead.) Katie was content to play with her friend while I kinda did stuff next to them in uber third-wheel fashion. It was a pretty funny picture with my 6'3" self sitting in one of those itty bitty chairs trying to include myself while I mashed on some pink play-dough...

Next time I'm going to tie some Barbies around my nck to ensure I get the propoer attention!

Actually, it was a lot of fun, seeing Katie in her element was great and her teachers seem awesome.

Devotions of a patient brother...

The setting: Sunday afternoon, and Katie is running the show.

The Game: Some kind of pre-halloween dress-up combined with a Cinderella story with red-sparkly shoes.

The characters: Well, mostly Andy, wandering around with a big grin and this mesh toy hamper over his head. Why? Who knows, but Katie seemed to think it was important that this was his costume, even though I couldn't for the life of me see any connection to Katie's Cinderella fantasy.

THe reason for this post: Not sure I can articulate. I was tickled by the look on Andy's face as he just kep following her around, taking orders and smiling all the while, seemingly content with being the walking pink mesh-box. Something about it said volumes about thier personalities, goofiness, and overall relationship.

That is a real color...

For those who are about to ask... no I didn't doctor this image, and yes it really is THAT pink.

As you can see, we got the cast on today. Kate was pretty good about the whole thing. We did have a very sad moment the other night; she burst into tears when she realized that she couldn't color. I sat with her and helped her for a bit, but the reality hit her like a brick. The was inconsolable for quite a while.

She does like the pink though. And you really can't miss it from a mile away. Currently mommy and Daddy are in a bit of a disagreement over letting her (and her friends) write on it. (I'm in the camp of: "Do you really think there is anything anyone could do to it to make it more obnoxios!?!?" Still, it looks beautiful on the Kate-ster.

Evil Katevil

OK, well remember how we were in the ER a couple weeks ago with Katie cause she smashed her head on the wall from running too fast? Well, ummm, little Miss Katherine seems to be going for some kind of daredevil record. We found out last night that Katie has recorded her first (and hopefully her last) broken bone.

Maybe I should back-up a bit and bring you all up to speed...

On Thursday, we were packing for the camping trip. Katie and Andy were in the garage helping me load the car. (Well, really they were mostly making messes, and spreading the camping stuff all over the garage floor.) Andy had taken-out the slippery changing pad and laid it out like a sleeping bag-pad in the middle of the garage floor. Katie soon after came bookin' across and lost her footing, landing on her left side...

Much crying ensued and we were quickly concerned that we had a potential break. Jen and I sat down with Katie in the family room and began a barrage of diagnosis trying to determine if what we feared was true. Having recorded double-digit broken arms as a kid growing-up, I felt somewhat experienced in this department and did all the standard stuff docs used to do to me to get a sense of the damage.

There was no swelling, and no redness, no limited mobility, but Katie seemed to be hurting more than an average fall. We started calling ERs to find out what the waits were like (remember the 8-hour waiting room story for the head-trip?...) After about 20 minutes of calling around and asking Katie "Does it hurt here? Does it hurt there? Can you move your fingers like this? Can you twist this way? Does this hurt?", Katie seemed to be doing OK. I was literally pressing down right on the break spot with medium pressure and she wasn't repsonding with any signs of pain. We starting thinking this wasn't a break, but just a bad bump.

Even though we had this camping trip the next day, and the ERs were showing 4 hour waits, we were pretty sure we were making an objective call... the right call, I mean, she seemed a little hurt, but fine. The reality is, the waiting-room DID play a role here, even though we want to pretend it didn't, and that reality continues to pile up inside me like a bonfire of frustration toward out health care situation.

Katie was adding to the confusion by wanting to go to the ER because she thinks it's fun to stay up late and spend time with mommy at the hospital. So we concluded that it was likely just a bad bruise and that we should wait it out and have her looked the following Monday.

The next morning (Friday) we felt even more confident that we made the right decision as Katie seemed no worse for the wear. She was using her arm normally and not complaining about any pain. Early that afternoon we headed up to Cuyamaca.

A couple times during the trip, Katie said that her arm hurt, but it was brief, no tears, and was really hard to tell if she was saying it for attention or for real. She wasn't nursing it and was still running around and using her arm normally. But she mentioned it just enough times that we agreed we should get it looked at the next day when we got home.

So we get back to SD, and Jen takes Katie to the ER Sunday afternoon. Katie showed a tad of swelling at this point and we were naggingly concerned. Sure enough, she has a small buckle in the upper part of her Ulna. You can see the Xray shot were there is some fuzziness on the left side of the bone... They have her in an Ace-bandage-split right now, and they are going to cast her next week.

OK. So Jen and I now feel a huge chunk of guilt for not just taking her in the first time, of course. Thankfully the decision isn't going to have any ramifications other than the guilt. So chalk-one-up in the "we feel like stupid bad parents" column for Steve and Jen and call ourselves lucky that things turned out as well as they did. Also, I have concluded that even though I have had enough breaks and casts to rival Evil Kenevil, I am still not as qualified as our crummy HMO.

Epilogue: Katie is delighted (for now) at her new splint and sling and can't wait to tell all her friends about it. I'm guessing that the coolness is going to wear-off quickly as she realize the hassle of bathing, dressing and not being able to write or color (left arm remember Katie is left-handed), not to mention the limiting elements around playing and running. So we will keep ya all posted.

Epilogue rant on Helthcare and the state of Southern California: For those of you who live in places where you don't have sit and let illegal aliens go ahead of you in line at the ER, be thankful. For us, well we are living in a place where this is a growing problem with no end in sight. There currently 21 million estimated illegal aliens in the US who have consumed $390 Billion dollars (since 1986) in social services. Kids of illegals (and illegals) are in our public schools, and they have cost us an additional 12 Billion. We spend $1.4 Billion annually providing health care for them. These are dollars we pay in taxes.

I realize these just seem like numbers and that they are hard to digest. They were for me as well until I started to become affected by them. Even as a native and resident of California for 36 years, I haven't felt the real sting of this problem until only recently. Sadly, the situaion is somewhat lost, as the voting minority is now become so strong, that the government is not able to address the situation. The only options for the honest tax-payer to is give-up or get out. It's a life-boat situation down here. And the life-boat is getting smaller, the ship is sinking faster, and the number of people looking for a seat is growing.

My apologies for the rant, I'm bent out of shape here. This post is not about me, it's about Katie. And she's doing fine. I love my kids, love my family. Here is hoping we can make good decisions for them in the days ahead. Peace.

Camping!

This weekend we scurried up into the back mountains of San Diego to Cuyamaca for an overnight camping adventure. We almost decided not to go as Katie had a major wipe-out the day before and we were worried she may have busted her arm, but she showed no real signs of prolonged sore-ness so we stuck witht he plan (more on this story tomorrow...)

It was Andy's first time outdoors and he definitely made the most of it. The kid was a whirling dervish of dirt, food and who knows what else. Mommy was a trooper in dealing with the limited ameneties. We all had a great time.

Highlights included fresh cooked hot dogs, smores, some moderate wildlife sightings (a golpher, some squirrels, birds, bugs, fish, and most notably... a RATTLESNAKE!) The rattelsnake story was actually a bit R-rated for violence... As we were driving to an old mining area, we saw a rattlesnake in the road ahead. The driver in front of us stopped to check it out as well. As soon as he stopped, the snake scurried under his car, the driver got out and looked for the snake, didnt see it, and then got back in his car. I rolled down our window and hollered to him that the snake was under his car, but he didn't hear me and drove off. Well, the poor snake got squashed under the tire! Jen and I both gasped at this sudden grisly turn of events. Luckily, the kids missed it and we drove on leaving the poor fella to join his place in the great circle of life.

Here are the pics:

Catching-up

It's been a very busy week. Dick and Kari came to visit and we have been packing int he fun with lots of stuff. Much good food, sweets, and trips around town. Here are some pics form the week:

Earth Day
We went to Earth Day in San Diego today. Lot's of fun stuff to see, including a parade, and some neat animals, like a baby kangaroo, baby bald eagle, and a baby...

...Alligator!

Valentines Katie
Here is Katherine modelling her new Valentine's Day outfit.

Does Whatever a Spider Can...
Spiderman has bitten Andrew since he scored this new cool spidey outfit from the Wards. He even know how to make the cool web sounds while he runs around posing and shooting webs.

Ship Shape
Here's a shot of Katie's class as they went on a special field trip with the San Diego Coast Guard. Can you spot Katie? I'll give you a hint: think pink.

Grandma and Grandpa
It's not tought to get smiles from everyone when this 4-some gets together. G&G spent a lot of time with the kids this trip. Thanks Dick and Kari for the R&R while you were here!

First Swim
Oh and it finally has warmed up enough to get on the bathing suits. Here is the first official swim of the summer. (Well, swim may be pushing it) But at least they got the bathing suits on. Soon the pool will be warmed up and we will be teaching Andy how to swim this summer.

Easter Take #2

Much Better.

The morning began with a traditional "Wake and see what the Easter Bunny left us..." Pink and blue Hershey Kisses made for gender-specific sweet-trails that led to baskets and presents. Andrew was literally breathless as he opened a Star Wars figure set. We spent the afternoon with friends enjoying the overcast but pleasant day. Good times.

Easter Take #1

The Setting: 9:00am, local Henry's Marketplace Grocery. Annual Easter Egg hunt.
The Characters: 30ish parents, 30ish kids. Much chaos.
The Hunt: Imagine 30 hungry dogs let loose in a box about 20 feet on a side with only a limited supply of tenderloin steaks -- then multiply that feeding frenzy times 100 and you get kinda close to this event.
Parents grabbing eggs for thier kids. People running each other over. Disappointed faces mixed with the smiles of satiated gluttony. Wow. By the way, the crying was because they didn't want to leave this awesome experience!
OK, so tomorrow we're going to try a more personal approach with some friends and some stuff around the house.
Until then...

Head-Banging and Ear-Tubing

Well, it has been waaaay to eventful since my last post! On Monday night, we were getting the kids ready for bed, and Katie was all riled up, running down the hall. Those adolescent motor skills couldn't handle the raw speed, and little miss Katie flew headfirst into a corner and opened up a nice new hole in her head... It was extremely stressful for everyone as we quickly assembled for a journey to the ER. Jen took Katie and I stayed with Andrew. They went to Children's hospital 9as we wanted to make sure we got good care from child specialists since we were concerned about any scarring.)

Well, they arrived to find a waiting room full and were told they had a 4 hour wait in front of them. We called Scripps and found that they had a slightly shorter wait, but figured it would be the same when you work int he travel time. So we decided to stick it out at Children's Hospital. This decision was made at 7:oopm.

8pm

9pm

10pm

11pm

12am

1am

2am

3am...

Finally, at 3am, they get SEEN. I won't go into the full horror story of the waiting room (as I can already feel my blood pressure rising as I'm recounting this) but needless to say, we were furious, tired, worried and outraged, all night long. Thankfully, Katie received great treatment once she got seen, and she is now recovering nicely. It appears that they did a great job on the cut, and we are keeping our fingers crossed that there is no long term damage.

(This is the part where I decide not to rand for 10 pages about the condition of Califonia's health care system and illegal immigrant problem.)

I'lll be honest with you all, that night changed me in a number of ways. This was my first time dealing with trauma and one of my kids. I actually felt that both Jen and I handled it better than I would have thought. But the 8 hour waiting room torture chamber... that gave me way too much time to think about things. Priorities.

OK, so they got home at 3:30. Yes, it only took about 10 minutes to do the procedure to 'glue' her up. By the way, Katie was amazing throughout the entire ordeal.

Couple days pass.

So today we took Andrew in to get Ear Tube surgery. He has been having some bad ear infections for a long while and we finally decided to get this done at the advice of doctors and friends. We were pretty stressed out about doing this considering the experience we had earlier in the week, but I am pleased to say that everything went just about as good as it could have. The doctors were awesome, everything went off without any complications. Andy was a stud and has already pretty much fully recovered.

We were going to go to SB this weekend but decided to hang back, and just get some rest in. Jen and I are both pretty wiped-out at this point.

And last but not least... today is a special day for yet another reason. My dad, patriarch of the Sandwisch line, has turned 68! Happy Birthday dad! We love you, miss you, and hope to see you soon.

Bash Teh Gah!!!

Jen arrived home with the kids the other night after I did (for a change). Andy had just spent an hour watching Katie do Tap and Ballet so he was fully wound-up and ready for some manly activities like wrestling and bashing stuff. When they came in, Jen asked me to help them was their hands. I took Andy first to the sink and started the scrubbing. Suddenly, he starts yelling...

Andy: "BASH TEH GAH! BASH TEH GAH! BASH TEH GAH DADDY!"

At first I was worried he was hurt or something, he seemed thoroughly dismayed about something. I wondered if the water was too hot...

Andy: "BASH TEH GAH DADDY! BASH TEH GAH!"

Me: "Andy, what's wrong, what are you saying? I don't understand..."

Andy then rolled up his sleeve a little more to show me that his tattoo of Sebastian the Crab (from the Little Mermaid) had all but washed away. Only a little fragment of the poor crustacean was left.

Me: "Ahhhhh, Se-Bast-ian's gone! Yeah buddy, he sure is. Bummer."

Andy: Very serious now, looking me square in the eye, "We nee uh nut er one daddy."

This actually happens quite often that I don't understand him. I love it though. Jen thinks I'm weird when I sit there with him and make him say words that are difficult to pronounce. I just do it cause we both laugh every time. He's such a great sport about it. Some of my favorites:

Platypus: "Pat-puss"
Porcupine: "Porka-pie"
Quantum Physics: "Kanum-Fissess"

It's great, he doesn't even really try to say it right. I think he realizes that mispronouncing things is silly. This kid cracks me up.

New Bed

Andy has been commandoing out of his crib for a few months now. So we made the move to get him a new bed. Its ity-bity, but it fits him just fine. He and Katie helped me put it together tonight. Surprisingly, he seems to have taken to it quite well. I'm sure my next post will have something in it about how he is coming into our room at 3am and sticking his finger in my ear to wake me up...

Sidewalk Chalkings

Overcast but warmer now. We busted out the sidewalk chalk today. Good stuff. I was dazzled by Katie's partridge-family-bus rendition of the rainbow dolphin. Katie also got a new haircut.

Grabby Geese

So we went to Lake Miramar this last weekend. When I was a kid, my dad used to drag us all over California to different lakes -- so I figgured it was about time to start passing on that tradition. Lake Miramar is probably more of a pond than it is a lake, but it's super close to where we live so it was an easy trip.

The kids loved it. We brought some bread with the intent of feeding ducks. Well, these two geese IMMEADIATELY confronted us as we came down to the shore. Apparently these geese (which were as big and as tall as Katie and Andrew) had absolutely no fear of people. They were honking really loud and getting RIGHT in our faces. It was so bad that Jen and the kids literraly threw the food at me and took cover from a distance. I have to admit, I was a bit intimidated myself. The were searously trying to grab the bread out of my hand and going for the bag. Those were some crazy geese!

Once we fed them, they seemed to calm down a bit and actually swam away after they realized we had nothing left to offer. We then did a little walking and checked out the fishermen, fishies, and collected a few pine cones. Good stuff.

The Particular Things

What is it that drives us to be particular about certain things?

I think we can all understand the preference to have our environment one way or another to make us feel safe and comfortable. However, it seems that we all have unique isolated preferences that border on needs -- and that seem to have no logic or significance when examined objectively. What truly puzzles me, is the seeming randomness in how or why we choose these certain 'particulars'. They are different for so many of us, and yet we cling to them like tiny isolated obsessions. Kids seem to be a great window into this, as they react so dramatically when their security particulars are even slightly tweaked.

Instructions for keeping Andy from having a fit in daily life:

He drinks an Apple Juice/Water mixture that usually borders on 40% Apple and 60% water. If you ever try and slip him water... forget it, he blows up.

The door to his room must be half-way open when he goes to bed. For those of you who have ever tucked him in, you know how important this is. Oh and Andy will remind you about 20x as you are putting him down, just in case you missed the first 19.

When done with bath, blue elephant bath towel must be put on immediately, and wrapped with the paws tucked in and around. Any failure to properly wrap will result in complete hysteria.

Baseball hat (which is adored and worn most of the time) must be self applied. While adult application of said hat is tolerated, subject must be allowed to remove, and re-apply.

Instructions for keeping Katie from having a fit in daily life:

Clothing selection must be self determined. Pre selecting clothing without approval by subject shall be considered an affront to personal freedom and will be met with hostility and ridiculous whining.

Milk shall be consumed in bed, in a sippie at bedtime. Milk shall be heated for 45 seconds. Under heating, overheating, juice, water, or absence of milk shall not be tolerated by subject. If milk is not ready when bedtime ritual begins, subject will remind the preparer that she desires WARM milk. When milk is then prepared and presented, subject will again ask if the milk is warm, and will look preparer in the eye to attempt to determine if there is any deception afoot.

Seatbelt shall be self-secured. Any attempt to interfere with setbelt administration will be me with crying and general anger.

Barbies have the universe's most complicated fashion agenda, and no Barbie can leave the house without wearing the cosmically determined outfit. Said fashion agenda's documentation seems to only exist inside the heads of 4-year old girls. Attempts to deter or interfere with this process shall be met with torrential resistance.

So we had a nice little weekend, hope you all did as well. Nana dropped in for a surprise 24 hour visit, which was lots of fun. She treated Jen and I to an hour to ourselves at Balboa Park, where we took in the Annie Leibovitz expo. Later in the day we had some time so we decided to go bowling (all the cool kids are doing it these days, at least according to my sister.) We had a great time. Kate and Andy had never been before and they really got into it. Nana bowled like a pro but Jen crushed us all with a 142. I was pretty impressed with my wife and now have a new back-up plan in putting her on the pro tour, in the event that I ever find myself unemployed. Kate and Andy were comical. Katie would push her ball with all her might, and jump up and down and cheer her ball-on as it rolled down the lane. Andy on the other-hand, would walk up to the line, chuck his ball down with a thunderous 'bam!" and stand there and pose like a gangster as his ball rolled about 0.5 mph down the lane. It wasn't long until he had quite a crowd admiring his style. Well, check out the pictures, you can see for yourself.
